Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgical Procedures

Plastic surgeons at Palmdale Regional Medical Center offer the following cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures:

Mammoplasty Procedures

  • Breast augmentation — Makes breasts fuller, larger or symmetrical by inserting saline or silicone gel implants.
  • Breast reduction — Often performed to relieve pain associated with heavy breasts by removing excess breast skin, fat and glandular tissue.
  • Breast reconstruction — Some cancer treatments require a mastectomy, or the surgical removal of a breast. Reconstruction surgery attempts to regain normal breast appearance by restoring lost breast tissue and areas of the nipple and areola.
  • Breast lift — Also known as mastopexy, this procedure can firm and tighten breasts by removing excess breast skin.
  • Breast deformity corrections

Body Lift Procedures

  • Abdominoplasty — Commonly known as a tummy tuck, this procedure reshapes and firms the abdomen.
  • Panniculectomy — After significant weight loss, you may have excess skin that overhangs below your waistline. This procedure removes the slack skin so it fits your new size.
  • Buttock lift — Raises, tightens and firms the buttock by removing excess skin on the buttock and thigh.
  • Buttock augmentation — Increases the size and enhances the appearance of the buttocks using implants or by transferring fat from one part of the body to the butt.
  • Liposuction — Slims and reshapes parts of the body to improve proportions and body image.
  • Keloid removal — Keloids are raised areas of the skin that form from a scar or injury. This procedure removes the keloid to restore the skin to its normal appearance.
  • Reconstruction after cancer treatment

Facial Procedures

  • Chemical peel — Enhances the appearance of skin on the face using minimally invasive techniques. This procedure can suppress the signs of aging and other undesired features.
  • Lip augmentation — Creates fuller or larger lips through dermal filler injections.
  • Rhinoplasty — Often used to reshape the nose to a desired appearance, this procedure can also correct certain breathing problems.
  • Otoplasty — Adjusts the shape, size or position of the ear.
  • Facelift — Removes wrinkles and signs of aging from the face using surgery.
  • Neck lift — Generally combined with a facelift to enhance the appearance of the neck and jawline.
  • Brow lift or forehead lift — Raises the eyebrows and gives the forehead an even appearance by removing wrinkle lines.
  • Mid-face lift — Also known as a cheek lift, this procedure eliminates sag in the cheek, giving it a more youthful look.
  • Cheek augmentation — Increases the size or adjusts the shape of the cheek using implants.
  • Chin implant — Adjusts the position, symmetry or size of the chin using silicone implants.
  • Orthognathic surgery — Straightens the jaw through controlled fractures.
  • Laser skin rejuvenation or resurfacing — Reduces the appearance of facial scars or blemishes.
  • Cleft lip and palate surgery — Repairs abnormalities in the lip and mouth, sometimes improving function and creating a normal appearance.

Craniofacial Reconstruction

  • Repairs injuries or abnormalities sustained to the face or skull. This procedure can also restore tissue or bone in the face that was lost during cancer treatment.

Eye Repair and Construction

Surgical procedures to correct the displacement of eyeballs, restore function of the orbitalis muscle or treat eyelid conditions, including:

  • Blepharoplasty — Surgery that reshapes or reconstructs eyelids that either roll inward against the eye or outward away from the eye

Elbow Surgery

Elbow surgery is used to relieve pain and loss of function sustained from cubital tunnel, nerve injuries and tennis elbow.

Sleep Apnea Surgery

Sleep apnea causes the muscles in your throat to relax while you sleep, blocking your airway and making it difficult to breath. Surgical procedures to treat sleep apnea generally involve removing or adjusting throat tissues or reducing their size.

Reconstructive Wrist Surgery

Conditions that affect the wrist can sometimes require reconstructive surgery. Plastic surgeons offer procedures that treat fractures, Scaphoid non-union and deQuervain’s tendinitis. Other treatments can involve amputation or tendon transfer surgery.

Hand Surgery

Hand surgery can repair, correct and relieve diseases, congenital abnormalities or injuries sustained to the hand and wrist. Procedures can also strengthen the hands and wrists to improve function and range of motion. Conditions treated include:

  • Arthritis
  • Burns
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Fingertip injuries
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Fractures
  • Infections
  • Hand tumors
  • Nail bed injuries
  • Nerve injuries
  • Trigger finger
  • Vascular disorders

Microsurgery

Surgeons use reconstructive microsurgery to perform intricate operations that require precision and accuracy on parts of the body. Microsurgery involves the transfer of healthy tissue from one part of the body to another, then reconnecting the necessary blood vessels. Certain procedures that benefit from microsurgery include:

  • Breast reconstruction
  • Head and neck reconstruction
  • Hand surgery

Burn Surgery

Burn survivors often require reconstructive surgery on their skin to regain a near-normal appearance. Burn surgery is achieved in two steps. The first step takes place immediately after you’ve sustained complex, large or serious burns and involves acute surgery. Once your wounds heal, your surgeon can perform reconstructive surgery to help restore lost function or create a normal appearance.

Individual results may vary. There are risks associated with any surgical procedure. Talk with your doctor about these risks to find out if plastic surgery is right for you.
